What is Share of Model, and how does it use your Pencil generations?

How the Share of Model tool works for Pencil clients: weekly monitoring for Search, Brand and Shopping, one-off GEO audits and asset generation, all counted against your Pencil generations.

What is Share of Model?

Share of Model shows how your brand appears in the answers people get from AI models such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. It tracks which prompts surface your brand, how models describe it, and where competitors take your place.

Share of Model is a tool of its own, on a separate URL from Pencil, and part of the same suite. The gaps it finds feed into Pencil: once you see where your brand is missing from AI answers, you can build and test the assets that close the gap in Pencil.

Please note: Share of Model will soon be available to all Pencil clients. It is currently only available to mutual clients of Pencil and Share of Model. You need an active Share of Model workspace and a Share of Model API token, which is unique to that workspace. Your Customer Success Manager can help arrange both of these for you. Please see this setup guide for the current setup steps.

Getting access

Share of Model can be activated for your Pencil workspace. Ask your Customer Success Manager to switch it on. Once active, your Share of Model console is connected to your Pencil workspace.

How it is billed

There is no extra subscription and no separate credit type. Share of Model draws on the generations already included in your Pencil subscription, from the same balance as everything else you do in Pencil.

What varies is how many generations each module counts, and how often:

  • Weekly modules: Search, Brand and Shopping monitor your brand on a recurring schedule. They count generations every week for as long as monitoring stays active.

  • One-off modules: GEO audit and Assets count generations once per item, with no recurring charge.

Weekly modules keep counting while they run. Review your active configurations regularly so monitoring matches what you need. You can pause or edit any module from the left-hand panel of your Share of Model console.

Search (weekly)

In Search, you define a set of prompts, the questions you want tested, and choose which AI engines to run them on. Search always runs the latest version of each engine.

Each engine has a weekly prompt allowance that counts as one generation, whether you use all of it or only part of it.

Engine

One generation per week covers

ChatGPT

Up to 150 prompts.

Gemini

Up to 150 prompts.

Perplexity

Up to 150 prompts.

Google AI Mode

Up to 150 prompts.

Google AI Overview

Up to 25 prompts.

Claude

Up to 2 prompts.

Brand (weekly)

A brand analysis runs every week for each persona or country you track. The number of generations depends on the model running the analysis.

The count scales with what you track. Three personas across two countries means six analyses. On Claude 4.6 Sonnet, that is twelve generations per week. On Gemini 3 Flash, six. On both models at once, eighteen.

Shopping (weekly)

Shopping monitors how your brand appears in Rufus, Amazon's shopping assistant. One generation per week covers up to 50 prompts.

GEO audit (one-off)

A GEO audit analyses a URL to assess how well it performs as a source for AI answers. Each URL counts as one generation, covering up to 100 prompts for that URL. There is no recurring cost.

Assets (one-off)

The Assets module counts generations once per item generated. The rate depends on the asset type and the model.

Keeping track of your consumption

Share of Model usage comes out of the same generation balance as the rest of Pencil. Check what remains with the counter in the bottom right corner of your Pencil workspace. For details, see How Are Generations Counted?

Two features bring Share of Model into Pencil: the Share of Model Agent, to question your Share of Model analyses in plain language, and Creative Scores, to score your creatives against your brand attributes. Both need a connected Share of Model workspace and API token. See Share of Model in Pencil: the Agent and Creative Scores.
