How do you manage Agent write tools?

To maintain a high standard of security and compliance, each workspace includes a central control for managing Agent write tools.

This control ensures that AI Agents cannot modify, post, or update data in connected external applications—such as Slack, Salesforce, or LinkedIn—without explicit approval from a Workspace Admin.

What are Agent write tools?

Write tools allow an Agent to take actions on your behalf, rather than only returning information.

Common examples include:

  • Posting messages to a Slack channel

  • Updating records in Salesforce

  • Sending conversion events to LinkedIn Ads

By default, all write-capable tools are disabled to prevent accidental or unauthorised changes to external systems.

How do you enable Agent write tools?

Only Workspace Administrators can enable write tools.

To turn them on:

  1. Go to Settings and open AI Governance.

  2. Find the section labelled Enable agent write tools.

  3. Toggle the switch to on.

  4. Acknowledge the terms. A confirmation modal appears and you must check the box confirming acceptance of the legal terms in Appendix C before continuing.

  5. Click Enable to apply the change.

Once enabled, write-capable tools become available across the workspace.

What happens in the Agent Builder?

When building an Agent, you may notice that some tools cannot be selected.

This usually means that Agent write tools are disabled at the workspace level.

You may see the following indicators:

  • Disabled tools
Write-capable tools appear in a light grey state and cannot be selected.

  • Helpful tooltips
Hovering over a disabled tool displays the message:
“An Admin must enable ‘Agent write tools’ in AI Governance settings to use this tool.”

What should you know before changing this setting?

Before enabling or disabling Agent write tools, it’s important to understand the wider impact.

  • Workspace-wide access
This is an all-or-nothing setting. When enabled, all write-capable tools become available across the workspace. You cannot currently enable write access for individual tools.

  • Immediate effect on existing Agents
If an Admin turns this setting off, any Agents already using write tools will lose those capabilities immediately. The Start chat button on affected Agents displays a tooltip explaining why chat is unavailable.
