Instead of relying on pre-built Agents with fixed capabilities, you can now combine multiple tools, models, and integrations into a single, multi-functional Agent.
This article explains what the Agent Builder is, how it works, and how to build, connect, and publish Agents.
What is the Agent Builder?
The Agent Builder is a configurable workspace where you can design Agents that perform complex, multi-step tasks.
With the new Builder, you can:
Combine up to five different capabilities in one Agent
Mix native AI tools with third-party integrations
Create Agents that handle end-to-end workflows in a single conversation
For example, you can build an Agent that searches the web for trends, writes a blog post, and generates a matching image—all in one flow.
How do you build an Agent?
When you open the Agent Builder, you move through a structured setup with a few core components.
Basic identity
Each Agent starts with a clear identity.
Name
Give your Agent a recognisable name that reflects its purpose.Description
Briefly explain what the Agent does, such as SEO Blog Writer or Sales Lead Qualifier.
Conversational model
The conversational model defines how your Agent thinks and responds.
You can choose from four model categories, depending on your use case:
Reasoning
Best for complex problem-solving, coding, and logic-based tasks.Deep thinking
Designed for nuanced analysis, strategic work, and creative writing.Fast response
Ideal for quick questions, summaries, and customer support.Multi-modal
Used when your Agent needs to work with images, files, and text together.
Best available models
Each category includes a Best Available option. Keeping this selected ensures your Agent automatically benefits from future model upgrades without needing manual changes.
Instructions and knowledge
This is where you define how your Agent behaves.
Instructions
The system prompt that sets the Agent’s role, tone, rules, and constraints.Knowledge base
Upload documents the Agent should reference before responding, such as brand guidelines or internal documentation.
What is the Tool Ecosystem?
The Tool Ecosystem is the biggest update to the Agent Builder.
Instead of tools being locked to specific pre-built Agents, tools are now modular and can be added to any custom Agent you build.
You can add up to five tools per Agent.
AI model tools (native capabilities)
These are built-in AI capabilities that work instantly when added.
Available tools include:
Image generation and editing:
Text-to-image
Image reference
Product swap
Packshot to image
Video generation
Text-to-video
Image-to-video
General utilities
Visit URL and crawl
Web search
Video cutdown
Like conversational models, image and video tools also support a Best Available default.
Third-party capabilities
You can also connect your Agent to external tools you already use.
Supported integrations include platforms such as Salesforce, Semrush, Slack, HubSpot, and Google Drive.
To add a third-party capability:
Select the integration
Choose the specific tools you want to use
Add it to one of the Agent’s tool slots
Infrastructure and security
Third-party integrations are powered by Composio and Pipedream, which act as secure bridges between your Agents and external software.
These platforms handle authentication, scalability, and API reliability. Detailed information about data flow and security is available in a separate help article.
How do you connect tools?
Adding a tool and connecting a tool are two different steps.
By default, third-party tools are added in a disconnected state.
Connecting a tool
You can authenticate tools in two ways:
One-click OAuth
Sign in and authorise access for tools like Gmail or Slack.API key or token
Paste credentials provided by the external service, such as Semrush or Asana.
Important
Only users with admin access can connect tools.
If an Agent has disconnected tools, chat will be disabled until setup is complete. You will see a notification prompting you to connect the required integrations.
The Admin Role
The Subscription Admin role can manage quality and security.
Who can publish and where?
Subscription Admins: Can publish to their own workspace OR all workspaces they manage.
Standard Users: Can publish to their specific workspace.
What is connection carry-over?
When publishing, Subscription Admins can decide whether tool connections are shared with other users.
Admins can choose to:
Carry over all connections
Carry over none
Carry over specific connections
For example, carrying over a shared Semrush account allows everyone using the Agent to access the same integration.
Standard users cannot carry over credentials. Other users will need to connect their own tools.
Existing connection priority
If a workspace already has a connection for a tool, that existing connection will be used instead of a carried-over one.
What happens in different scenarios?
Building
You can mix native AI tools and third-party integrations in one Agent.Chatting
Chat is locked until all selected tools are authenticated.Publishing as an admin
You can optionally share tool connections with the team.Publishing as a standard user
You share the Agent setup, but others must connect their own tools.Importing Agents
When copying an Agent ID from another workspace, you may need to reconnect tools before use.
