How can I resize one creative into every format I need?
AI Auto-Resize (Beta) generates resized versions of a static creative across multiple formats in one action, inside the Ads Editor. Each resized format is fully layered and editable, so you can adjust any element before export.
This is a Beta feature. Output is not yet production-perfect and may need manual repositioning, particularly on drastic aspect-ratio changes or extreme custom dimensions.
How do I enable AI Auto-Resize?
AI Auto-Resize must be switched on at the workspace level before it appears in the editor. Workspace Admins can enable it under Settings > Beta features.
Once enabled, the toggle appears at the top of the Add formats panel in the Ads Editor. Enabling it is a one-way action, and can't be undone.
How do I use it?
Open your creative in the Ads Editor and select the formats panel icon on the right-hand sidebar to open the Add formats panel.
At the top of the panel, switch on AI Auto-Resize. Then expand any platform group — Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Google Ads, TikTok, X, YouTube, Pinterest, or Print — and tick the destination formats you want. You can select formats across multiple platforms in the same action, and Custom size lets you enter your own dimensions.
When you run the action, Pencil generates a resized version of your source creative for each format selected. In a few minutes, these will be visible in your formats list, and ready to review in the editor.
Which source creatives does it work with?
AI Auto-Resize works on static creatives only:
Pencil-native statics
Photoshop-imported statics (.Pencil files)
Figma-imported statics (.Pencil files)
Layer content, layer names, and layer settings are all preserved across the three supported source types — including text, which stays editable as text rather than being rasterised.
Not supported:
Video creatives, whether Pencil-native or imported from After Effects.
Statics with embedded video elements. The action will run, but the video element will not resize and the output may not look right.
Source files must sit within the standard Pencil upload limits. For the full list of supported formats and their options, please see What File Types are Accepted by Pencil?
How do I export the resized formats?
Auto-Resize produces editable formats inside the Ads Editor. When you are ready to export, hit Export and choose your file type (PNG, JPG, PSD, and others). Pencil returns a ZIP containing all your formats in that file type.
Are layers preserved across formats?
Yes, every resized format is fully layered. The AI repositions elements for each new aspect ratio, while every layer stays editable in the Ads Editor — text remains editable as text, images sit on their own layers, and all layer settings carry over.
This is what separates Auto-Resize from the previous method of running a creative through an image model, which works well, but results in static outputs with no layering. With Auto-Resize the AI does the structural work, but you keep the same editable layered file you started with.
How are generations counted?
Each format AI Auto-Resize produces counts as one generation, regardless of what the source creative contains. Three new formats of one creative costs three generations.
Auto-Resize draws from the workspace's existing generation pool — there is no separate pricing. See How Are Generations Counted? for the full breakdown.
Tips for the best results
Finalise first. Resize a completed creative, with all layers in their final positions. Auto-Resize is the scaling step at the end of the design process, not the design step itself.
Stick to similar aspect ratios where you can. The AI handles modest shape changes (e.g., 1:1 to 4:5) far better than drastic ones (e.g., 1:1 to 9:16, or 1:1 to a 32:9 OOH placement). Expect to do manual repositioning on dramatic shifts.
Keep custom dimensions reasonable. Custom size accepts any dimensions, but extremely small or extremely large outputs will likely need manual repositioning of elements.
Plan the destination set. Once you've finalised the creative, select every format the campaign needs in one action rather than running multiple smaller passes.
Review safe zones. Beta does not yet account for safe zones in destination formats. Check that logos, CTAs, and any mandatory text land where they should.
Current Beta version limitations?
Output is not yet production-perfect. Manual corrections may be needed.
Works only inside the Add formats panel in the Ads Editor.
Static source only. Video is not supported, and creatives with embedded video elements will not resize cleanly.
Drastic aspect-ratio shifts and extreme custom dimensions will often need manual repositioning. The model works best across formats of similar shapes.
No safe-zone awareness yet in destination formats.
