Why should I connect my ad accounts to Pencil?

Find out how Pencil uses your connected ad accounts and how the connection helps you make ads that perform.

Written by Michael Whyle

Pencil connects directly to the ad platforms you already use: Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn, Google Ads, YouTube, DV360 and CM360.

What does the connection do?

When you connect an ad account, Pencil uses it in three ways.

  1. Performance predictions. Pencil trains a Dedicated Model on your ad account data. The model predicts and scores how well your new creatives are likely to perform.

  2. Insights. You see which creatives in your ad accounts perform best, and why.

  3. Faster export. You send finished creatives straight to your ad account libraries.

What happens to your data?

Your Dedicated Model works only in your workspace. Pencil doesn't use your ad account data to develop its own technology or any third-party model.

Who can connect ad accounts?

Two sets of permissions apply. Pencil decides whether you can make the connection. Your ad platform decides what you can share through it.

In Pencil, you need a role with the Edit Integrations permission. The Admin and Media roles have it by default, and subscription admins can add it to custom roles. To check a role’s permissions, go to Settings > Team, or ask your workspace admin.

Your ad platform has its own rules. You need enough access to the ad account to grant Pencil permission. For example, sharing Meta assets through Business Manager requires an admin of your Meta Business portfolio.

Who benefits?

  • Brand marketers get more visibility of campaign results. Media data shapes the creative work, which brings creative and media teams closer together.

  • Creative agencies get insights and predictions that help them make creatives more likely to perform.

  • Media agencies get more strong creatives, which helps them hit their KPIs.
