Pencil can show you how your teams are adopting and using GenAI. Some metrics and usage figures are available directly in the platform via the Impact Report feature, and Workspace usage statistics. You can also request a more granular, tailored adoption report by reaching out to your Customer Success Manager. This article explains the kinds of reporting available and how to get the information and metrics you need.

Why does it matter to ground GenAI use in data?

Rolling out GenAI across a team or organisation is a significant investment, and the value of that investment is far easier to demonstrate when it is measured. Reporting turns a general sense that "we are using AI" into evidence of where it is saving time, scaling output and reducing cost.

Proving efficiency is the clearest reason. Data lets you show how much creative is being produced, how quickly, and by how many people, which is the foundation of any case for continued or expanded investment.

Understanding adoption is the other half. The same data shows where uptake is strong and where it is lagging, which teams or individuals are driving the most activity, and which use cases are delivering the most value.

These insights help you direct training, replicate what is working, and bring the rest of the organisation along on the GenAI fluency journey.

This article covers reporting on how Pencil is adopted and used within your team(s).

Note, this is separate from ad performance reporting, which measures how your published creatives perform once they are live.

What are the main ways to see GenAI adoption data in Pencil?

There are three main ways to see how Pencil is being adopted and used, each offering a different level of detail.

The Impact report

The Impact report, available to workspace admins in Settings, is the most detailed in-platform view. It shows generations and exports across your teams and workspaces, and turns that activity into efficiency measures: generations per export, time spent per export, and cost per export.

You can set your own assumptions for cost per generation and hourly cost per creative person, so the figures reflect your own rates, and you can view the data by team or by workspace. The report can be filtered by date range, sorted, and exported, with totals and averages summarised at the foot of the table.

This is the primary method for reporting on GenAI adoption in Pencil, and is geared towards expressing output in terms of time and cost. With it you can create views that speak most directly to proving efficiency. You can set which fields are visible using the Edit Table button, and export the table as a .CSV file at any time with the Export button.

Workspace statistics

The Workspaces section in settings gives a quick, at-a-glance view. For each workspace it shows the number of users, generations and exports in the current billing cycle.

The Workspace view is high-level: it offers totals rather than detail, so it suits a fast read on activity rather than closer analysis.

What other GenAI adoption data can my Customer Success team share with me?

Beyond the in-platform views, Pencil maintains internal dashboards using Holistics business intelligence tool.

Your Customer Success Manager can share client-facing links to specific views and dashboards relevant to you, giving you richer reporting than the in-platform figures.

These dashboards are available on request and form a standard, default package covering a broad set of adoption and usage data. This includes:

Generations

Totals and monthly trends

The number of generating users

Breakdowns by workspace, generation type (image, video etc.), source (agents, sheets, workflows etc.)

Exports

Totals and monthly trends

The number of exporting users

Breakdowns by export type, channel and workspace.

Agents

Generations by agent and by workspace

Agentic versus total generations over time.

Models

Which AI models are being used and how often

Breakdown of model use by workspace.

Users

Users overview table - role, workspace, generations, exports, last login and time spent per user.

Total users, active users and new users

Activity per user,

Ad accounts

All connected ad accounts, by workspace and provider.

Scores

Predictive scoring data, by workspace and engine

Our CS team can also customise your dashboard to tailor it with the specific views, metrics and data points that matter to you.

How do I plan my reporting?

There’s no one-size-fits-all for reporting on GenAI adoption, as needs and methodologies vary widely between and across organisations. The right reporting depends on your goals and the stage of your rollout.

Certain metrics, views and dashboards may not be available by default in Pencil. Please work with your Customer Success Manager to determine what reporting should look like for you, and we can plan your reporting accordingly.
